Company News : We have transitioned to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices

Berkshire Hathaway wants to be in businesses that are enduring. Real estate brokerages will be around 100 years from now and HomeServices of America will be around 100 years from now. A home is one of the most important assets that people will ever buy. Homes are also where memories are made and you want to work with someone you can trust.

An interview with our Owner and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Roney:

What affected your decision to adopt the Berkshire Hathaway name?

Finding the right flag for our agents, not just in name but also in character, was very important to me. As an owner, I am always asking, What can I do over time to improve our supportive offerings to agents? When weighing the brand, I recognized that we needed some of the characteristics of Prudential, but we also needed a brand that was both fresh and established in the business community. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices was the obvious choice.

What does Berkshire Hathaway bring to the real estate market?

The new Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices brand comes with fresh ideas but also conveys a sense of stability. Coming after the recession, we believe that Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices will inspire confidence in buyers and agents. Berkshire Hathaway built the brand from the ground up, resulting in a set of services to agents and clients that include all the cutting edge technologies and market analyses needed to make informed decisions in the marketplace. While the BHHS brand is the first significant launch of new Real Estate brand in quite some time, Berkshire Hathaway has a known track record of success and integrity in the real estate market, and its leaderships strategies are grounded in real experience.

Berkshire Hathaway is ranked the most-respected company in the world by Barrons ? How will Berkshires high standing as an international holdings company translate into respect for its HomeServices division? How will the brands financial background improve client and agent assistance?

There is a significant comfort level in dealing with a firm that has a tremendously strong financial pedigree. Real Estate, frankly, has not been a stable business, but Berkshire Hathaway managed to maintain its balance and credibility during and following the 2008 crash. That says something about its integrity and business intelligence. In my opinion, a background in finance is a prerequisite for any trustworthy real estate brand not only does Berkshire Hathaway have an established leading position in financial circles, it has a global powerhouse reputation. I could not think of a more sound foundation for a brokerage.

How will this brand transition positively support growth?

We are expecting this transition to be a home run for retention and recruiting. We have monitored the successful transition of other converted companies and tested the new marketing and informational tools offered to agents on the new Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices platform, and are impressed with the offerings and positive results reported by agencies now operating as part of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. The brand is now fully realized, and we look forward to joining the network.

What has your experience been with Berkshire Hathaway leadership?

My experience with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices leadership has been very positive. They have been hands-on, accessible, and excellent strategic partners. In contrast with many other brokerages, the HomeServices leaders are savvy practitioners they know how to run companies, not just franchises.

Berkshire Hathaways practical operating experience in real estate extends beyond the creation of the HomeServices division. As someone who has a long history in corporate real estate as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Coldwell Banker Relocation Services, I really wanted a company and brand grounded in market experience. It was a blessing when Berkshire Hathaway, the most respected company in the world according to Barrons, announced its intention to launch the HomeServices network. I knew they had a strong operating background and track record in the real estate services industry.

How large is the new BHHS network?

The Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices network now includes nearly 28,000 agents and 750 offices in 37 states.

What unique tools will Berkshire Hathaway provide its agents?

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices will offer a robust suite of real estate tools and resources through its Global Network Platform (GNP). Key components of the platform include lead management, CRM, extranet, BHHS Media Center, mobile capabilities, and social media monitoring and management. In addition, the BHHS Media Center will also house a full array of e-marketing materials for agents.

I feel positively that Berkshires digital platform will allow us to build upon our #1 position in the local market place and facilitate the marketing process for our agents and clients.

Domestic real estate has become an attractive investment opportunity for international buyers. How will Berkshire Hathaway meet the global demands of the real estate market? Do you believe its name will carry weight with international buyers?

The Berkshire Hathaway name carries international brand recognition. While foreign buyers have historically represented less than 1% of buyers in our market, I believe that Berkshire Hathaway will encourage international buyers to consider Utah as an ideal place for a vacation home. The new HomeServices brand expands our reach tremendously. In terms of growth, the new network has international expansion plans in-place, and we know that non-domestic buyers do not buy property solely based on online research. Foreign buyers will engage with our top agents and are more likely to do so because of Berkshire Hathaways globally known name, reputation, and background.

Are you making adjustments to your business plan as a result of the conversion?

Yes, its a great opportunity to help our agents grow their businesses through brand leverage. We are using the conversion to further energize our firm and increase our already strong growth trajectory. I could not be more thrilled to enter into this new stage of business development.

Community News : Running with Ed

This past month, several of our agents and valued employees participated in the annual Running with Ed relay race, which supports the Park City Education Foundation and its efforts to advocate for and maintain excellence in our local school system. Over $200,000 was raised in support of education, and our company contributed generously to this amount.

In true Park City fashion, our two athlete teams were supported by agent-driven VW Vanagons. Both teams completed the relay in good spirits and inspired a healthy pool of donations that will go to ensuring that Park Citys youth receive competitive, world class educations. Hats off to those who participated!
